Sundance 2011 continues...
We saw a total of 15 films over the weekend, and more to come next weekend. Eventually I will get around to writing about all of them!
My Idiot Brother
Directed by: Jesse Peretz
Starring: Paul Rudd, Elizabeth Banks, Rashida Jones
Rating: NOT RATED YET
Review by: Sherri
This movie was so GOOD! Probably because I love Paul Rudd, he brings all of his Paul Rudd-ness back into this film, and his ability to fall compleletly into his character in everything he does is what made this movie for me. He was such a loveable character. There is also a star-studded cast, Zooey Deschanel, Rashida Jones, Elizabeth Banks, Emily Mortimer, and others. I was a little worried that such a cast would hurt the film...Sometimes movies full of stars become about the stars, and not about the movie...But each one was great. Loved it.

Sundance Day 1!
WOW. What a great start to our Sundance trip! We saw 3 films yesterday, and a compilation of short films. Here we go:
Martha Marci May Marlene
Starring: Elizabeth Olson
This film is about the emotional and social struggles that a girl named Martha goes through after leaving a cult. The performances were top-notch, each character was strong and real. And..I applaud Elizabeth Olson's (yes, Olson, like as in sister of the Olson twins) portrayal of Martha was breathtaking.

Bellflower
This movie started out as sort-of a love story, and by the picture...you can tell how it looks like it ended. It was a story of two friends who were inspired by Mad Max and the coolest part, was that they made a FLAME THROWER and the car MEDUSA from the original Mad Max film. It was a pretty entertaining movie, the shots and camera style were great...the plotline...was alright (Nate totally disagrees, he thought it was the coolest).
I Saw the Devil
YIKES!!! This was probably the gooriest movie ever made. It is about a killer who murders young girls. It was HORRIFIC. It is a Korean film with english subtitles...And..it was crazy. The killer was insane, and it is probably one that WE NEVER WANT TO SEE AGAIN.

The Terrys:
This was the grossest thing We have ever seen, about a trailer-trash ice smoking couple, who are both named Terry. I was (and the whole rest of the theater) laughing and dry-heaving simultaneously the whole time. Weird...
Deeper than Yesterday:
The external World:
Deeper than Yesterday:
This film was about Russian Submariners who have been under the ocean for Way too long. The most amazing thing about this short film was that none of the actors were professionals, and the entire film was shot with 35mm film and the directors crew was made up of his family and friends.
The external World:
This was a digi animated short. It was like A.D.H.D. on the big screen.
Worst Enemy:
Worst Enemy:
This was about an anxious woman with issues. It was HILARIOUS! The actress was so funny, and the physical humor in this movie by her, and the other actors was perfectly timed.
The Strange Ones
The Strange Ones
I am still thinking about this short. It was filmed so beautifully, and the best part about it was that you never really knew who the characters were.

I Love You Phillip Morris
Directed by: Glenn Ficarra & John Requa
Starring: Jim Carrey, Ewan McGregor, Leslie Mann
Rated: R
Review by: Sherri
This was a hilarious romantic comedy about a real con-artist named Steven Jay Russel, who is portrayed by Jim Carrey. Carrey was great in this film, and his usual Jim Carrey humor added so much to his character.
While in prison, Steven Russel (carrey) meets and falls in love with his soul-mate Phillip Russel (McGregor). Over time, they become separated and Steven proves he will do anything to be with Phillip. The relationship they build together is touching, and comical at the same time.
I definitely recommend this movie to pretty much anyone! It has it all. It is funny, and sweet and one that I certainly will watch again.
Just a tidbit of information...Because of the title, I thought this movie had something to do with smoking...but it did not.
